What ever happend to Arby’s?

by admin on Jun.05, 2009, under Posts

Have you ever wondered what exactly happend to the menu at Arby’s?  I was looking up at it the other day, and I couldnt believe how much its changed.  As most of you know, I used to earn my paycheck there about 10 years ago (hard to believe).  Their subs completely changed.  They used to be excellent, and where 2 for 5$.  Now?  Half the quality for double the price.  They no longer have the Onion Petals either.  The “Sidekickers” (as they call them), used to come on nice little black trays, even with lids for the larger ones.  Now?  They try to cram 8 mozzerella sticks into a medium fry box…crushing the sticks and barely looking edible.

I cant figure this one out to save my life…they have TONS of items that arent even on the menu!  Absent from the menu are the Arby Melts, Junior Roast Beef, Chicken Corden Bleau, and even the Big Montana.  They can make and sell all of these items still, (I still get the Corden Bleau combo) but for some reason, they no longer have them on the menu?  I simply dont understand it.

You look at their combo meals, and at one time, you had a choice of various different meals and sandwiches.  You had a Big Montana combo, Arby’s Melt combo, Chicken Strip combo (which they dont even sell Chicken Strips anymore, which is BS cause they were great), No Corden-Bleau combo etc.  All they have now are Small, Medium, and Large Roast Beef, and a Beef’n'Chedder equivelant combos.  Thats 6 combos…all exactly the same except for the # of roast beef slices.  Not exactly a big variety anymore.  They have only 3 Chicken Sandwich combos (when I worked there, they had 6).   They only have curly fries, no more regular fries.  They only have Apple Turnovers WITH Icing.  Back in the day, we had Apple and Cherry, and you had your choice of if you wanted Icing or not.

Their “5 for 5.95″ (or 4 for 5, they ran both promotions randomly but was the same thing) was GREAT.  But, like everything else at Arby’s, they scaled that back as well.  The items on the menu used to be Arby Melts, Ham Melts, Medium Fry, Medium Soft Drink (or Large for 30 more cents), Mozzerella Sticks, etc.  Now, they are called “Value” items.  They have “Value fry”, a “Junior Arbys Melt” etc, which are all HALF the size of the regular items.  For instance, Arby Melts are (at least when i worked there) 4oz of roast beef (7oz was a regular roast beef).  These “junior” ones that they replaced the regular ones for on the 4 for 5 menus are about 2oz of roast beef…literally HALF the amount for the same price as what it once was a few years ago.  “Value Fry” is a small fry, as opposed to a medium one.  They replaced the mozzy sticks with a bottle of Dasani water?  WTF????  And the “Value drink” is also now a small, as opposed to a medium.  They literally cut the size of the food in half in the 4 for 5 deal.

I miss the old Arby’s.  The Arby’s that actually took the time to look a little “upscale” in their food presentation approach.   The Arby’s that didnt simplify their menu by cutting half their variety and raising its prices.

But hey, at least I can still get my Chicken Corden-Bleau combo…even if it isnt on the menu anymore.

There are many reasons to hate Subway, here is another one…

So everyone knows about the little cheese triangles that Subway uses for your sandwhiches right?  Ever wonder why they are shaped like that?  (Notice the “!” point at the end of the notification below).  Rip-off.
